Hello, and a warm welcome to you. Today, we will get to know the artist Kasia Derwinska a little bit better. She will tell us, what her favourite colour is, why she regards her art as a bridge and which moments make her happy.

My Life

Which is your favorite country? Although I like to travel, I am still in love with Spain. I came here for the first time when I was a student and still after already 15 years of living here, I still discover this country.

Since when do you work as an artist? Personally, I do not like to use the word artist in my own context. For me, we all have an art inside, each person has a gift for something.

My Art

What is your favourite colour? Definitely black with its depth and nuances. For me black color is like a touch of velvet.

What inspires you? For me everything can be an inspiration. It can be a simple conversation with somebody. It can be a movie, book or song also my daily life and emotions. The constant source of inspiration I also find in my nightdreams.

Who is your favourite artist? I am not able to choose just one for the reason that I like photography as much as painting and illustration. I adore surreal paintings of Rene Magritte and polish painter Zdzislaw Beksinski as much as the illustrations of Benjamin Lacombe for its melancholy and the perfection in details.

How would you describe your art with a few words? My work is an attempt to connect the world that surrounds us with our feelings and thoughts. For that reason, I describe my creations as building a bridge between the visible and the invisible.

My Feelings

What makes you sad? Basically, what brings me down quite intensively is deception, especially with the people I trust.

What makes you happy? It is not difficult to feel happiness, although this sensation is very elusive. Often these are very simple moments, like having a coffee in the morning watching the sunrise in silence or the smell of rain while walking through the forest.

Dear Kasia, I thank you very much for our talk. It is so interesting to learn what moves you and to what you think about your art.

I am looking forward to analysing the art works of Kasia in the next days together with you. In the meantime, have a look at Kasia’s website. Until then,I wish you a wonderful time.

Katharina
